3D model description

I was looking for some terrain to print and I thought, I have all these empty spools why not use them. So I decided to create a set of walls that can be glued to empty spools to turn them into a bunker for all your grimdark battles. I’m calling these SpoolHammer buildings, feel free to steal the name. These pieces are based on a 200mm diameter spool that’s 60mm wide/tall depending on how you look at it. This is about the size of all my various spools although I did have a couple of spools that are 65-70mm wide/tall.

To completely cover a spool you will need 3 main sections and 3 doors/firing port. One door is open, one is closed, and one is, obviously a firing port. There are a couple of different versions of each file depending on how you want to build it. If it is just part_name.stl it is a panel that is 75mm high, which give about a 10-12mm firing step on the top of the spool. If it is part_name-Short.stl this is the same file but at only 63-ish mm high. This should just cover the full spool. You can mix and match them, so if you would like a firestep on one side by not the other you can use some of the 75mm high ones and some of the 63mm high ones.

Then there are the same files but labeled part_name-Backer.stl. These files all have a block on the backside of the file about 3mm above the print bed to give you something to glue to the inside of the spool. Some people may want these but the are honestly not needed unless you need some more surface area to glue.

There are 3 top sections. Small_Top_Section.stl is just a 90mm diameter, 2mm thick round plate that should cover the donut hole in your spool. Top_Hatch.stl is exactly the same as the small top section but it has a hatch in the middle so your troops have a way of getting in and out of the bunker from the top. Finally there is the Large_Top_Section.stl. this is a 2mm thick roof section that will cover the rest of the spool top. To fully cover the top of the spool you will need 3 large sections and one small or top hatch section.

Other pieces are in the works which include an upper firing platform, a communication array, a landing pad, and maybe a weapon emplacement of some sort.

I have used some parts from other creators here including:

Use whatever layer layer and infill that works for you. I used 0.2mm layer height, and 5% infill.

You should print them upright with a brim. The files with the backer on them will need supports, I used build plate only and that worked fine. The other panels just need a brim as long as your printer can handle short bridging.
