3D model description

This is an improved version of thing:3287167 by tfl4580 (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3287167). Thanks for your work!

  • Fixture reduced in height. The original was too thick for our needs and the extra height is not needed for stability. I reduced the inner area to a height of 2mm, which will avoid unwanted infill-layers (depending on your slicer settings) and create a solid base for weighing.
  • Added feed-through hole for easier cables management.

Load cell modules are sometimes slightly bigger than the prepared fixture allows. In case of issues try to increase object size to 102% in x-y dimension.

Long term test: We have multiple of these setups in use with a permanent load of 30-60kg. One setup is used with a constant weight for reference. Over the course of one year we saw 1) no long-term deviation, and 2) daily and seasonal fluctuations in the lower grams. Summary: Should be suited for all use cases.

Next steps: This setup was used to build a permanent beehive scale but can be used for any weighing purpose. Check photos for complete setup. We use a Wemos D1 mini and the firmware Tasmota to communicate measurements via MQTT to a home automation software. Nowadays I would recommend ESPHome+HomeAssistant for those playing along at home. There are tons of tutorials online :) Good luck!
