3D model description

The M982 155mm Excalibur is a high-accuracy GPS guided munition used most recently and successfully in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Most likely due to security concerns, there isn't a lot of detailed information regarding this weapon other than its basic operation. From my research I have found that the weapon has a rear obturator 'cup' that engages the rifling of the 155mm howitzer barrel, creates a seal and pushes the round out of the barrel where the obturator cup falls away shortly after firing. The 155mm round continues and at apogee the fins deploy and guide the round to it's pre-programmed target.

No instructions are included due to the assembly being so simple. The parts are numbered starting from the top. An alternate part for where the fins are still un-deployed is included as well as the obturator shell (cup), if you chose to build the unfired version. The top fins and Part 4 have 1/4 holes. Use either 1/4" brass tubing or wood dowels to secure the top fins in. If you have any questions on assembly, message me.

I recommend painting the body with Tamiya TS-28 olive drab spray paint. No stencil is provided, but you can create your own and use a light spray of Tamiya TS-16 if you wish. On the finned version, I left material in the fin wells so as not to have holes where you can see right through the round. Paint those sections flat black. The rear fins are should be painted a dark steel colour and the housing for the fins, aluminum. There is also a ring at the bottom of Part 7 that is bare steel coloured. Use the photo as reference.

The screw heads are all separate parts, that I would recommend getting printed on a resin printer for better detail. Use the Phillips head screws for the upper part and hex head for the lower part of the round. The largest part is 155mm in width (of course) and 218mm high, so it should fit on most FDM printers.

Each piece of the body of the round has half-lap joints. Most parts are hollow except for pieces like the fins. Test fit before gluing. Some sanding and filing may be necessary depending on your printer, calibration, nozzle diameter, etc.

Recommend 0.2mm layer height and 4 wall thicknesses.
