3D model description

This 3D model showcases a congenital heart defect known as atresia of the tricuspid valve, in which the tricuspid valve, normally located between the right atrium and right ventricle, fails to form properly. This condition results in decreased blood flow and suboptimal development of the right ventricle, leading to a small (hypoplastic) right ventricle. Due to the right ventricle's inability to effectively pump blood into the lungs, surgery is required to redirect blood flow through the Fontan procedure. During this procedure, the surgeon attaches vessels that typically carry oxygen-poor blood from the upper and lower body directly to the lungs via a tunnel called the Fontan tunnel. Oxygen-rich blood from the lungs then enters the left atrium, followed by the right ventricle, and is ultimately pumped into the body by the left ventricle. This intricately detailed 3D model serves as a valuable resource for medical professionals, researchers, and students interested in understanding the pathophysiology and treatment of this complex heart defect. Additionally, it offers a unique opportunity for 3D printing enthusiasts and hobbyists to create their own accurate and visually striking models for educational or personal use.
