Project 13040 - Model for small scale printing

Project 13040 - Model for small scale printing 3D print model

Description

The Project 13040 is a design proposed for the Soviet Navy during the last years of the cold war but was never realised as the Soviet Union collapsed.

This model includes a Statsheet which displays some data of the ship as well as two renderings of the model. The full scale image is located in the zip-archive.

This class was supposed to be a training cruiser, utilizing the most modern soviet weaponry at the time. This includes several design features from the Kirov-class of nuclear battlecruisers as well as several newer technologies. As armament six VLS cells for the P-700 'Granit' Anti ship missile, two quadruple RPK-9 ASW missile launchers, six S-300FM Anti-Air missiles and three triple Kinzhal-launchers were installed. For close in weapons systems three Kashtan and a single 130mm / 100mm AK-100 gun could be used. This complement of weaponry is considered quite heavy, especially for a training cruiser. The lack of a large superstructure for training and studying are raising the question if this project was perhaps mistranslated and indeed not designed for training use. Nevertheless this class of ships was never realised, as the soviet union collapsed before any concrete plans could be made.

As the only information about this project is either lost to time or quite rough, several design elements like radars and such are missing in the model. I tried to compensate with detail as much as possible, but the majority of the ship is simply quesswork.

Note: This model is recommended to be used in the 1/2000 scale. The models itself isnt scaled, the scale table is down below.

1/4000: 3,75cm or 1.47in

1/3000: 5cm or 1.96in

1/2000: 7,5cm or 2.95in

1/1000: 15cm or 5.9in

For self calculation: The Project 13040 Design was supposed to be roughly 150m or 492ft long.

The model is intended to be used with little supports as possible, yet some are recommended below all overhangs, especially at a large scale. Supports under the main radar and mast are recommended. Be careful when removing the support structures, as some details can be quite fragile. I recommend using a resin printer for this. Up and Downsclaling might be possible, yet I dont know to what extend.

If you face issues with the model, have questions or want to propose some changes, please reach out to me, I am always happy to help. I am also open for suggetions for new ships which I havent done yet, as I am looking to expand my catalogue of ships.
