Chandrayaan 3

Chandrayaan 3 3D print model

Description

Chandrayaan-3 is the third lunar exploration mission of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). It consists of a lander (Vikram) and the Pragyan rover, similar to Chandrayaan-2 but without an orbiter. Its propulsion module behaves like a communications satellite. The propulsion module carries the landing setup and rover until the spacecraft is in a 100 km lunar orbit.

The launch of Chandrayaan-3 took place on 14 July 2023 at 14:35 IST and the injection of 100 km of circular polar orbit was successfully completed as part of phase one. The lander and rover began the descent to the moon on 23 August 2023 at approximately 5:45 pm IST, landing at 6:02 pm IST the same day, making India the first country to land a spacecraft on the lunar south pole, and the fourth country to perform a soft landing on the moon.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is considered a stepping stone for future ISRO interplanetary missions.
