This tool is to help get the best distance between train and platform edge on a curved platform. 2nd, 3rd and 4th radius tool available.

At my local model railway club we have got a curved platform that has been redone several times because trains keep touching the platform so I thought I would work out the optimum distance 2nd, 3rd and 4th radius track. To do this I looked at several items of rolling stock. To get this right I needed the length of rolling stock, width of rolling stock and the distance between the centre of each bogie. I also looked at this in a very similar way for steam engines. Within the club people said use a mk3 coach, but after calculating the over hang mk3 coaches are not the best piece of rolling stock to use. Depending on bogie spacing some had a bigger external over hang but minimal internal overhand. The new class 800 IEP I wouldn't use on a track with a platform on a curve because to overhang exceeds all other rolling stock by a fair diatance.

This tool is primarily a train bogie with two arms, one for internal overhang and the other the external overhang. I used two old plastic wheels so I could roll it around curved and Mark with a pencil.

There are three tools that can be printed for each radius of tractrack. 2nd radius (438mm), 3rd radius (505mm) and 4th radius (572mm). Just print and add wheels and your ready to mark where the platform edge should be.

The example in the pictures were printed on a AnyCubic Proton M3 3D resin printer.
These items can be printed on a Resin or Filament printer.
