3D packing puzzle based on Rhombic Dodecahedron cells that have been sub-divided into 4 trapezohedrons. This puzzle stays together by itself and only comes apart with the tricky three way motion shown.

The sub-group of three pieces also requires three way motion to come apart, making this a very interesting puzzle to solve. It is one of my favorites!

If the tolerances are right, the puzzle can be rapidly disassembled by throwing it slightly in the air with a spin :)

Default puzzle height is about 42mm. There are three different models included with different clearance amounts. I found the 0.07mm clearance (per piece) worked well for my printing setup.

Note that scaling the model will also scale this clearance amount.

3D printing settings

Supports required for four of the pieces.

The stl files are oriented in the intended printing direction (with z pointing upwards)

Printing with a raft is recommended for greater dimensional accuracy. It can prevent the bottom layers squishing and causing the z dimension to be off

I usually have to use a craft knife to clean up the surfaces with supports and other areas of imperfections in order for the pieces to fit together nicely.
