I did not have much success sculpting stone texture in Meshmixer, or finding something with a CC license that wasn't similarly crude. So I might need to study an actual stone block, or perhaps a 3d-scanner could do this adequately.

Usually at 28mm scale, we can overlook the texture -of- the blocks if the eye sees them in the context of a wall. Or we can apply texture afterwards in the paint or with pva+sawdust etc. But this isn't always satisfactory so I'll think further on what to do.
