Vintage Skidoo Snowmobile Taillight lens housing

This is an original. Yes you can go online and purchase a new taillight housing anywhere snowmobiles parts are sold. This fits skidoo tundra, citation, safari, and Nordik's - probably others I'm sure, but I don't have an exhaustive list. It fits my 1982 Skidoo Nordik. When deciding to try to design, I wanted to make an orange one as a replacement, since mine was broken. I decided to make one that I could use the original light bulb socket. I spent quite some time trial and error making this work. Must be printed with supports, with the rear of the housing (side that would be inside the seat) on the build plate with tree supports is recommended. It's not a perfect design but nothing anyone will notice unless they start scrutinizing it. The lens fits in tight. Make sure when putting the lens on the housing that you are being careful and give the lens cover a "little squeeze" to fit it in the housing. I used this taillight housing for one full season printed in PET G (orange, poly maker). It's held out just find with zero issues. The original on the snowmobile is white. I printed multiple colors and I like the orange. I'm game for you to print my lens housing but please nothing commercial. I have another housing I created that works with LED strips that I will also post. I should also note that on the orange housing I did use some epoxy resin to coat the stanchions as I wanted to make sure they were strong. I used a couple coats of UV curable resin for strength. Those are the only components I used resin on. Not sure if it was necessary, but it's what I did. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll add some more pictures as I come across them.

As for the wiring, there are holes in the housing to connect the wiring from the old socket. I used 3mm screws to re-use the light bulb socket. You must drill out the old rivets on the original taillight housing to remove the socket. I decided to purchase a 3 wire waterproof automotive connectors - look them up online to purchase.

There are also 2 other holes on the housing so if moisture gets in it can dry out. I haven't had an issue, but again my machine is garage kept.

And.... If the holes are too tight for the original hardware - DON'T drill them out. Heat a nail with a torch using pliers and melt the holes larger. The stanchions will break if you drill them. You can glue them back together with epoxy if you decided to neglect reading this through.

Another pro tip: I printed supports to help hold the gasket in place, but I didn't place enough of them. Use a couple drops of super glue to hold the gasket in some key spots - make's it so much easier. I've also used thin strips of nano (alien) double sided tape to just replace the gasket complete

Final thoughts... it worked well. No issues, no complaints and I have a custom color tailight housing on my sled. With a couple spares that I printed.
