Iemanjá (Yemọjá in Nigeria, Yemayá in Cuba or Dona Janaína in Brazil) is the orixá of the ebás, a fertility deity originally associated with rivers and mouths. Their main cult was established in Abeocutá after forced migrations, taking the Ogun River as support, from where it manifests itself in any other body of water. It is also revered in parts of South America, the Caribbean and the United States. Being identified in the merindilogum by the Odus irossum, Ossá and Ogundá, it is materially represented by the sacred settlement called Ibá de Iemanjá. It manifests itself in initiates in its mysteries (eleguns) through incorporation or trance.
Her maternal archetype was consolidated above all as the Mother of all Orixás. Iemanjá in the words of D. M. Zenicola, "represents the feminine progenitor power; it is she who gives us birth, a divinity that is universal motherhood, the Mother of the World".

Seu culto principal estabeleceu-se em Abeocutá após migrações forçadas, tomando como suporte o rio Ogum de onde manifesta-se em qualquer outro corpo de água. Também é reverenciada em partes da América do Sul, Caribe e Estados Unidos. Sendo identificada no merindilogum pelos Odus irossum,Ossá e Ogundá,é representada materialmente pelo assentamento sagrado denominado Ibá de Iemanjá. Manifesta-se em iniciados em seus mistérios (eleguns) através de incorporação ou transe.
O seu arquétipo maternal consolidou-se sobretudo como Mãe de todos os Orixás. Iemanjá nas palavras de D. M. Zenicola, "representa o poder progenitor feminino; é ela que nos faz nascer, divindade que é maternidade universal, a Mãe do Mundo".
