They are known for their powerful jaws and their ability to remain motionless for long periods of time, waiting for prey to come within striking distance. Crocodiles are found in a variety of habitats, including rivers, lakes, and coastal areas. Their diet consists mainly of fish, but they will also eat mammals, birds, and other reptiles. Crocodiles are considered to be apex predators in their ecosystems, meaning they have no natural predators besides humans. Despite their fearsome reputation, crocodiles play an important role in their ecosystems by helping to control populations of prey species and contributing to nutrient cycling. However, their populations are threatened by habitat loss, hunting, and other forms of human interference.
