3D model description

Holders for a short file, at a variety of angles. For dressing and bevelling the ends of guitar frets or 100s of other uses, I’m sure.

There is a file set at 90° for filing flush to the fingerboard and one set flat (at 0°) for dressing the tops of frets or rounding over.

There are angled handles with the file set at 15°, 25° and the more typical 35°

I have provided these the 90° and 15° free in a different listing (https://www.printables.com/model/448105-90deg-and-15deg-fret-end-dressing-and-bevelling-fi) so you can see how they work for you.

To secure the file each of the holders uses a pair of m5 X 10.1 flanged brass press in inserts such as you can find on amazon or ebay.

example 2

Use M5 X 12mm cone pointed set screws to provide the clamping force – just remember these are printed items so don’t over tighten (a small amount of torque on the screw provides a phenomenal clamping force).

The files can be made from a 200mm (8”) file, just use an angle grinder to cut a file into 2 pieces (loose the tang) and use a sanding belt or (be really careful) the grinder to round the corners of the file.

The flat file has the inserts and grub screws assembled into a loose clamping section, hold this in place with the file as you tighten the screws to clamp everything together.
Use an M5 screw of sufficient length to pull the insert into place

Bill of materials (per handle)
• 2 off, M5 flanged inserts ( these press into a 6.75mm diameter)
• 2 off, M5 X 12 cone ended set screw (grub screw)

Print Time 2Hrs (Per Handle)
Sundries cost Approx.. £3 (Per Handle)

3D printing settings

PETG is ideal with a wide perimeter for layer adhesion.
For the flat file print on its side with (preferably tree or organic) supports for the upper edge. All others can be printed on the base.
