3D model description

Meet Cha-Cha-Charlie, the Cinco de Mayo Party Lobster! He's a crazy crustacean that loves to have a good time. A former member of a popular mariachi band, Cha-Cha Charlie now spends his days entertaining children, and his nights drinking the other shellfish under the table at the local tequila bar.

Now Charlie the Lobster can be all yours. He makes every gathering more festive, and will even hold your phone upright while blasting your favorite tunes, watching silly reels, or calling friends and family on a video chat to say, ¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! (or for any other reason).

But... WHY?!

If you're wondering why we would make a Latino party lobster in the first place, well, it was a special request. A dear friend told us of her long-time dream to have a lobster centerpiece on her table. Not just any lobster, but this specific lobster - lying part-way back, playing the maracas, wearing a sombrero. Years she had spent looking for one but never saw anything like it. So, we made it happen. And then we chose to share it with you all because, who knows, maybe she's not the only one searching far and wide for such elusive crustacean decor.

How About Just a Lobster?

Perhaps you're not the party type, and would rather just have the lobster. That's not a problem! This cute little lobster (he's actually quite large) can be printed all by himself. No sombrero hat, and/or no maracas. Just don't print those parts. The only pieces you'll need to print are the lobster, of course, his antenna (they pop right in), and the stand that holds him upright.

The STL files for this are:
- Party Lobster - Body
- Party Lobster - Antenna
- Party Lobster - Stand

The antenna will push into the lobster's head tightly so no glue is required, although you're welcome to use it if you like. The stand fits loosely into the back for easy removal, but you can glue it too if you wish.

Nah, He's Cool. I Want the Whole Crazy Lobster!

To print the whole Cinco de Mayo Lobster, you'll want to unzip the folder and print each of these STL files within. Note that the file "Party Lobster - Whole" is for previewing purposes on Cults3D only, and is not meant for printing (but you're welcome to try it):

  • Party Lobster - Body
  • Party Lobster - Antenna
  • Party Lobster - Stand
  • Party Lobster - Maraca (x2)
  • Party Lobster - Sombrero Pt1
  • Party Lobster - Sombrero Pt2
  • Party Lobster - Sombrero Pin
  • Party Lobster - Sombrero Balls (x8)

Again, the antenna will pop right into the head (glue optional) and the stand is meant to be loose for easy removal.

The Maracas do not need supports, but a Brim is recommended to help with build plate adhesion. We painted these a light brown to start. Then, we put tape around the top and bottom and painted festive blue and orange stripes.

The Sombrero was a real pain to print. We tried with and without supports, but were never satisfied with the outcome. So, we chose to split it in half and print the insides face down with no support. The result was great! We added a Pin to help line it up perfectly. Put glue on each side, insert the pin, and press them together. Once that dried, you'll need to add the balls.

The Sombrero Balls can be printed one at a time, or all at once. You'll need 8 of them in all. Keeping in theme with the maracas, we chose to paint 4 blue and 4 orange, then glue them into the recesses of the hat in alternating colors.

However you choose to build this guy, we ask that you please upload your makes! We would absolutely LOVE to see them!

#Cha-Cha-Cha :-)

DIMENSIONS
This lobster is no spring chicken! We made him to be as large as he can be on a standard size printer (220x220x240). If you have a larger printer, feel free to scale him up even larger. Or, you can save some time by shrinking him down. I wouldn't suggest going below 60% as the sombrero balls may not print well.

At 100% scale and fully assembled, this fun-loving shell fish measures:

X = 18.0cm / 7.1in
Y = 16.3cm / 6.4in
Z = 17.9cm / 7.0in
