"You're absolutely sure this is the *only* way to cross the swamps?"

The older woman, Margory, asked. Her words dripped with disgust.

"Well, no, we could always wade through the 40 miles of fetid chest deep water! But you didn't like that either- Look, it's not that bad, and it'll be over before you know it! Chauncey and I used to do this all the time!" Erky couldn't keep the grin off his face, the frogs were truly convenient for travel, but he still relished the idea of his friends soaked in frog saliva.

"All the time? Really? How many times have you been to this temple? Also chest deep for a gnome isn't so bad for us!" Aetmir chimed in, he had caught on to Erky's ploy, but he wasn't above getting gross for the bit. Especially for Erky, he'd been having a hard year. He had to lean into the grilling though, Margory wouldn't let him off as easily if she thought he was in on a prank.

"Well, just the once... but I think they'll help us again," Erky replied, looking up at the tiefling with a conspiratorial wink. A serious look overtook his face, as he turned out toward the bog. After a moment he began to chant and mutter, casting first a spell to walk across the water, then another to communicate with the beasts. The giant frogs had kept their eyes on the party as they argued, mostly ignoring the troop, focused instead on watching for larger insects to consume.

From the dry ground Aetmir and Margory watched with some amusement as the hulking frogs turned towards their little gnomish friend, seeming to heed his words with great consideration. One suddenly opened its huge mouth and snapped its tongue out, nearly 30 feet to where Erky stood. In a heartbeat he was gone, and the two frogs closed the gap to the hill they stood on, bounding in huge leaps between rocks and mangrove trees. Before Margory could release the divine energy she had begun to call upon, she was snapped up, a sticky tongue wrapping around her completely. The last thing she saw before being engulfed in the amphibian's maw, was the sh*t eating grin of a grimy rock gnome tucked into folds of wet flesh.
