3D model description

The year is 1848. You're a seasoned wagon leader tasked with guiding a group of greenhorn settlers across hundreds of miles of untamed terrain. The faintly beaten path will be treacherous, food and water scarce. Odds are, you're not going to make it. In fact, the most probable outcome is you will die of dysentery. Thankfully for you, it's just a game!

The Oregon Trail is among the most famous computer games ever made. It was originally programmed in 1971. A few years later, schools began integrating it into their computer systems as a fun way to teach children about the hardships of the 19th century. When the Apple II came along, The Oregon Trail got a few upgrades, and next thing you know, it wasn't just an education program - it became one of the best-selling computer games of the 20th century!

Enough with the history lessons - if you know, you know! And if you do know, you'll love this Oregon Trail Super Fan Gift Set. It comes with the following 3D printable items, all relating to the game's iconic death-by-dysentery.

  • Oregon Trail Keychain (One STL file, filament change black-to-green)
  • Oregon Trail Shadow Box (Two STL Files, Frame and Base; filament change black-to-green for Base)
  • Oregon Trail Cake Topper / Decorating Stencil (One STL file; use as topper on green cake, or use as a stencil over dark cake and airbrush with light green food coloring)

3D printing settings

Printing the Oregon-Trail Keychain

The keychain requires either a color change or a quick paint job. If your printer supports pausing for a filament change, program your slicer settings accordingly. Here's a quick tutorial on How to Use Pause at Height in Cura to swap colors.

Recommended Settings
- Layer Quality Height: 0.12
- Infill: 20
- Speed: 50
- Supports: No
- Plate Adhesion: None

Printing the Oregon-Trail ShadowBox

This item comes as two STL files. They are:
- Oregon Trail - Shadow Box Frame
- Oregon Trail - Shadow Box Base

The Frame should be printed in black with basic settings. The Base has the design on it and should be printed slower, with a filament change to switch from black to green. Alternatively, you can print it black and paint the raised edges green when it's done. (See link above for Cura color-changing tutorial).

With both pieces printed, the Base will fit into the back of the Frame. Use a bit of Glue to secure it in place.

Recommended Settings for Frame
- Layer Quality Height: 0.2
- Infill: 20
- Speed: 60-80
- Supports: No
- Plate Adhesion: None

Recommended Settings for Base
- Layer Quality Height: 0.16
- Infill: 20
- Speed: 50
- Supports: No
- Plate Adhesion: None

Printing the Oregon-Trail Cake Topper Stencil

The stencil is large, thin, and has many small lines that need to print clearly. Fine quality is required.

Recommended Settings
- Layer Quality Height: 0.12
- Infill: 100
- Speed: 40
- Supports: No
- Plate Adhesion: None
