For more than a century, I have carried the burden.
Not a single day goes by without it crushing down on my shoulders as soon as I open my eyes and wake to the darkness that has enveloped my people for generations. It is another day like the one before. Casualty reports. Lists upon lists of materiel requisition, recruitment drives, topographical reassessments. And those endless, tedious trategy counselings with the Lord Solar.
Oh, how I long for the days of old, when I tasted the enemy's blood in the air from our continuous shelling and undermining, and had den Ewigen Feind taste the steel of my own heirloom chainblade when we stormed their trenches. I wish, I so wish to be out there once again, at the speartip of the asssault. But it can not be, for I am now and have been for ages, the Legat Vajk Oskilian, elected the highest of the Meritocrats, the council which governs our outcropping of the Imperium of Man. Instead, I now lead from war rooms and bridges of void ships like the Novos Prospectus on which we are currently travelling the dark passages of the Immaterium, sailing ever closer to our next destination on our road to victory. Soon we will translate back into realspace, and the bellies of our adamantine beasts will spew blood and thunder unto the unlucky souls who stand in our way on the surface of the Throne-forsaken Fels we are supposed to conquor in the name of the God-Emperor for the glory of the Imperium. Maybe I will win my bet with the Lord Solar, so I can at leaste breathe the filtered, enriched air of the planet we will take for once instead of rotting on this cold hulk.
The Godth-Imperator sent for us, and Nykur heeds the call. As ever.
I pity the fools who choose to stand against us, for we are of the earth, and into the earth we shall grind our Imperator's enemies.
