We may be but a small cog in the great God-Machine of the Imperium of Man, but our faith is unwavering and our will adamant!
We will not falter, for we know what lurks in the fynstaernis! We faced His Divine Majestaet's enemies cycle after cycle for
centuries already, and they put no fear into our hearts anymore. Even the great rift left us unimpressed, for we've been suffering
since our kin first set foot unto this black pearl we call home. Once, we were servants, indentured, a lowly lot - Tagediebe as my
father called us, but as mies as such a fate already was - after the Martyr brought our curse and blessing upon us with his detonating the
drill engine and its laden Atombomben in the depths of Nykur's innards, our real suffering was yet to come. Our home was
devastated by earthquakes and eruptions. Our Vieh died, our world withered, our skies turned black and our air poisonous. The aftermath would have killed us all,
had we not joined with our brothers, the Mechapriester of Mars, praise be to the Maschinengott! And turned the theaters of our
enslavement into our new cities. To us, the word Unterhive means home, for we are all of the Sump and can only elevate ourselves
by giving the most of us over to our common cause - purging the Unclean from the galaxy, so we may all live in peace one day.
We may be doomed to lives underground, locked in perpetual battle with - and under constant threat of annihilation by - the alien,
mutant and heretic, but we rise up to our duty, stern and grim, and march into battle, our Herzen instilled with our faith and our Martyr's teachings.
We are well aware of the role our world's resources play in the greater scheme of things - so we keep working our tunnels, ever surveying, ever
digging, ever prospecting; mining our rich minerals and supplying Chroup, the forge world neighbouring our star system, in exchange for materiel,
ammunition and the Omnissiah's blessings. But the price we paid for our continued existence and our ceaseless striving towards paying our
tithes to His Divine Majestaet was a terrible one indeed. In the darkness we unraveled and became of the earth; our lungs grew dependent on the
poisonous air we have breathed for over a millennium and forces us to wear Luftmasken wherever we go. Our skin is now pale as bleached bones,
our eyes either sensitive or not there at all. Some of us glow, some of us are of superhuman hearing, all of us now being Nachtvolk - nightsider
abhumans. We view this as a punishment for turning our once-paradise into the throne-forsaken hellscape it now is, which only gives us all the more
reason to repent and redeem ourselves. We are led by the best of us, for our leaders are chosen for their merits and character. Only those most
devoted to the Imperium and Nykur are elected into the council, and they all lead by example.
Nowhere in the galaxy will you find anyone besting us Nykurians in sapping, tunneling, undermining, subterranean ambushes or seismographic
reconnaissance. As I told you:
We are of the earth. And into the earth we shall grind our Imperator's enemies.

The Pale Children, or Grubenklärer as they are officially designated, are the elite-cadre of nykurian warriors. Every single one of them has fought den Ewigen Feind , the Eternal Enemy, for over a decade in their home world's personal hell, the entry to Kallar's Cursing, an expansive cave system deep inside Nykur's guts from whence the vile and abhorrent spawn forth - and their lives know only duty and slaughter.

These men and women wear the pale faces of their fallen fathers' skulls on their respirators, to let them witness their unceasing continuation of the onslaught and to bring honour upon their rest at the place where all tunnels end. Heavily armed and armored with forge world Chroup's masterfully crafted equipment, they bring the Imperium's full infantry arsenal to bear upon the enemy.
