3D model description

This is a remix of DCRobotics' Curved Lithophane Box (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4698911), which I like very much.

Changes I made:

  • Added a "lip" at the front of the lid to match the design of the main box/body and cover a potential gap between the lithophane and the lid
  • Increased the main box/body's internal height to 75.5mm to better fit a 4:3 picture (75mm height according to 100mm width) and still have 0.5mm tolerance
  • Micro-USB powered
  • variants without/with(v8/v9) switch KCD11 (smaller than in original design)
  • Minor design changes to increase print-ability

In the original design's comment someone already asked for the "lid with lip". The lid of my design still fits the original box/body of the original design.

To make the USB port integration easier the design is based on a small microUSB breakout board. These are widely available on various marketplaces. The USB-Port/PCB can either be glued in or screwed in with two M3x6 screws.

As USB provides 5V I used 5V LED stipes to not have to change/adopt the voltage. Ideally it has the LEDs mounted relatively close to eachother what allows 4 LEDs per side (see picture) and offers a real good brightness.

USB "GND" connects to LED "-"
USB "VBUS" connects to LED "+"

Please review the good documentation of the original design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4698911) about how to print the lithophane, box and lid!

Just like DCRobotics I added Fusion 360 project file (*.f3z) for anyone who might want to edit/remix it.

Change-Log:

2022-12-18 (v7): Initial upload of all files as version v7

2022-12-20 (v8): Changed internal height of the box to 75.5mm to fit well with a 4:3 picture with 100mm width and 75mm height (and still have 0.5mm tolerance). Lid is unchanged.

2023-01-03 (v9): Added Version v9 with cut-out for a switch (15x10mm "KCD11" which is smaller than in original design)
2023-01-07 (v9.1): Minimal optimization of the switch cut-out to better fit. Replaces v9.
