3D model description

The rear doors of the Enyaq (certain models) has a roller curtain (sun shade) built into the door blade. The handle for this curtain can sometimes break/shatter, and it is not available for purchase as a separate part. Instead, the whole assembly must be replaced, and that is quite expensive.

This design is a replacement handle for this curtain. Note that if the original handle has broken in such a way that it is still attached to the rod, it might be necessary to remove the rod (by cutting the curtain (or removing the stitches that closes it) open in one end to be able to pull the rod out) to get it off.

3D printing settings

This is mainly a two part design, because to maintain strength, the T-part that hooks onto the top of the door (when the curtain is in use) needs to be printed in a different orientation to the rest of the handle. The two parts will be assembled using glue (a gel type superglue works well).

Four different versions are available:

1) Two piece snap on
2) Two piece thread on
3) One piece snap on
4) One piece thread on

For filament printing, one of the two piece versions are recommended. The T-part is the same for both, and it should be printed with supports in the orientation shown in the picture. The main part is printed on it's side (for strength), and after printing, the tongue on the T-part is inserted into the main part with some glue. Light sanding of the tongue might be necessary, but it should be a very tight fit to ensure the glue will hold sufficiently.

It might be necessary to use a brim to ensure bed adhesion. 0.2 mm layer height (or lower) is recommended for best finish.

If the rod has been taken out of the curtain, then printing the thread on version is recommended, since you will be able to thread the rod onto the handle. If the rod is still in place (old handle removed, of course), then the snap on version can be used.

The one piece versions are not recommended for filament printing, as there is no orientation it can be printed in that will provide enough strength. Might be useable for high strength resin printing, but YMMV.

Keep in mind that if you print in PLA, it will most likely suffer from deformation due to the high heat that can occur in a car when the sun shines on it. Printing with more heat resistant filaments is recommended.
