3D model description

A small, retractable, three-piece cutlery set in a 98 x 38 x 24 mm holster to put on your belt and take anywhere.

For the knife I used a number 4 handle scalpel blade.

It supports blades from number 18 to 24.

The handle (external part), is made in two parts so that it can be printed without supports and achieve a good surface finish.

Then these two parts should be glued together taking advantage of the guides so that they are perfectly aligned. Loctite works very well but you have to work fast!

Print two pairs of pieces for the cutlery set (Cutlery_Handle_1 and Cutlery_Handle_2, two of each).

Before gluing the two handle parts, any imperfections that may have remained must be removed by smoothing the inside of the parts. It is recommended to test the correct sliding of the inner part in order to achieve correct operation.

The spoon!

This one deserves a separate paragraph for both its design and the difficulties in printing it.

I finally achieved a shape that had a capacity of 4.50 cm3 (almost like a normal soup spoon) and that didn't look too big in the whole.

This part must be printed with support if using FDM printers so you don't get an even, smooth interior finish. It needs to be sanded quite a bit.

If a resin printer were used it could be printed vertically and a very good finish would be achieved.

I have designed a support piece that attaches over the outside of the sheath to recess the spoon and integrate it into the assembly.

IMPORTANT: Please note that the spoon printed in PLA will not withstand the temperatures of coffee, tea or soup! It must be printed using materials that can withstand high temperatures in order to use it for these purposes.

The sleeve is designed to be printed vertically with a flange of about 2 mm or more, so that it adheres well to the print bed.

The sleeve cap, which prevents the cutlery from slipping out of the sleeve, is a very small part that requires special treatment.

It should be printed with support and use a skirt the full height of the part. Details are in the Printing Parameters.

The hinge holes are designed to use a small piece of steel wire from a 1 mm diameter paper clip as a spindle.

Note on the texture seen in the photographs;

If a magnetic bed with PEI film is used, the texture of the PEI film can be exploited to be copied on our prints.

To do this, you must print the face side, where the texture is desired, directly on the PEI. This will be the first layer.

Scalpel sheets can be purchased at drugstores.

**These blades must be handled with great care because they are extremely sharp.

Material:

The parts shown in the pictures are printed in PLA and work very well. Just be cautious about the temperature at which they are used. PLA should not exceed 50 to 60 degrees.

They can also be printed on other materials such as ABS or PETG which can withstand higher temperatures.
