3D model description

This is a replacement insert for the 2022/2023 Big Box edition of Village, from Eggertspiele / Plan B Games.

The original insert fit inside the box, and this is about as much praise as I can give it. From there, it all goes downhill.

  • One of my biggest frustrations was that components across expansions had to be re-separated between each game to fit into their specific sections.
  • Worse yet was that even the promo tiles had to be separated too.
  • The cherry on the cake was the fact that due to the loose layout of the expansion boards, I found that the contents on the left side of my box would shift during vertical storage.

So I decided to create a new insert. One that would tackle and remedy the following challenges:

  • Cards can be sleeved (Tested with Sleeve Kings & Mayday Premium sleeves), and are organized by type in trays that can be used during gameplay!
  • All resources, goods, and tiles are separated into trays that can be used during gameplay!
  • Contents fit the box and will not move during vertical storage!*
  • Quicker setup and tear-down. Everything is already in its storage tray!
  • Player trays that contain and separate all components, including the boat!
  • An optional market overlay helper that more clearly separates the available market tiles from those in queue! My groups found the choice of artwork and layout for this to be particularly poor, as the market tiles would cover the coloured space that differentiated the two sections.

The organizer provides two options for dealing with the market tiles.

  1. Use a drawstring cloth bag to store them, and keep it in one of the side wells. This requires purchasing a bag separately from the game. I personally use the larger size from the GeekUp bags https://boardgamegeekstore.com/products/microfiber-drawstring-bags?_pos=19&_sid=fd6a8b257&_ss=r
  2. Print the optional "ALTernate" market tile box and lid, and store them in there. This box may fit vertically in any of the corner slots where the bags go.

Each file lists the number of times that it must be printed. Refer to the filenames and included images for what goes in each box, as well as the layout of the organizer in the game box. For the side spacers, print each set (1 + 2) twice, and arrange them such that the organizer wall is facing inwards, and that the thin side wall is in the middle of the box. This paragraph will make a lot more sense as one is arranging the spacers, but please leave a comment if you have questions!

UPDATE: Influence V2.stl has been uploaded. This replaces both the previous Influence.stl and Main Spacer.stl. After a few plays, I came to realize that the wells for influence were way too tight and it was a pain to try remove the cubes to refill the bag. This new design makes it a bigger tray, and removes the need for the 2nd spacer. The market row helper fits in the top right corner for storage. See the two new pictures for the revised piece design.

  • Ensure that the lid is pressed against the box body, otherwise if a gap forms, contents may shift. I use fabric hair bands from the local dollar store, and they work great.
  • ALTernate models are conditionally optional. See the section above for details.
  • OPTional models are optional, and simply help during gameplay.
  • I sleeve all my cards with Sleeve Kings sleeves, with the exception of the setup cards which are Mayday Premium. All wells are guaranteed to fit these sleeves, though longer and thicker sleeves are not guaranteed. If your type of sleeve doesn't fit, send me a message and we'll see what I can do to accommodate. Sleeves that are significantly longer than the card length are not supported, and may not fit.
  • Card dividers may be used to stash cards from unused expansions. This can be done either under the Silver goal cards, or with the corner spacer.
  • Multilingual copies of the game will come with alternate decks of cards in other languages. A second language worth of cards may be stashed in the corner spacer. Depending on the sleeve thickness used, this may accommodate sleeved cards.

3D printing settings

0.4 nozzle
0.2mm layer height

Minimum bed size to print this should be 210mm, as the longest piece is 208mm. The tallest piece is 71.20mm.
