3D model description

A nice DIY 32x32 RGB LED Matrix in a IKEA picture frame diffusor with ESP32 & WLED Sound Active.

Hello Makers,

i wanted a bigger LED matrix with 32x32 LEDs. So i looked for a nice picture frame that fits also for the depth. I found a good & cheap one on IKEA.

Take a look here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lFdzL06OOs

On Youtube there are lots of tutorials to build a 32x32 matrix out of four 16x16 panels. So if you want to look how the connection has to be, take a look here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSKnhfXVupE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toxMDCoVebI

I think the IKEA picture frame i found is better for this ;) The only bad thing on this frame is the glass. Because its not glass, its thin plexiglass…

Because of this, the light diffuser cannot be pressed on exactly because it can bulge a little, which means that the effect does not look quite perfect. But you can simply order a 35cmx35cm pane from a window glazier or on the Internet. 4mm thickness
should be enough. (Optional)

It is advisable to attach capacitors to the voltage inputs on the individual panels. And also use 330 Ohm resistors for the data gpio output of the ESP32.

WARNING FIRE HAZARD: The panels consume a lot of power when operated at full power. I strongly advise using thick wires AWG14 for each panel or thicker and protecting it with fuses after the power supply. For one panel 10-15A. In addition, the limiter in WLED should be activated. So 45.000mA at 0.35A Eco WS2812B panels.

Here you find the pinout diagram for the INMP441 Microphone: https://mm.kno.wled.ge/WLEDSR/Digital-Microphone-Hookup/

You should use two data pins (GPIOs) of the ESP32 for the Data of the LEDs, because more than 800 LEDs on one data wire can to cause lags. You can set multiple ports in WLED. Take a look at the pictures.

Its also important to put the data wires away from the power supply and maybe also the power connections. Because this can result in interferences. And desolder/remove connections that you dont need. Otherwise its like an antenna ;)

A narrowing frame is included with the IKEA frame. It's great for fastening and bracing the whole thing. I attached a wooden slat in the middle to ensure a little more pressure. With small wood screws you can then screw the narrowing frame to the outer frame from the inside.
For the power supply I used double-sided tape and a screw on the side.

Here you can install all kinds of WLED versions directly to your ESP32: (Open the link with a supported browser)

I recommend the WLED MoonMod Version. Use the latest beta. You can also use the original WLED SR.

You can also install it manually: https://mm.kno.wled.ge/moonmodules/Installing-and-Compiling/

I also added my presets for WLED. You can load it in WLED.

3D printing settings

I printed it on a Prusa MK3s. I printed it with 0.3 layer high and 2 perimeters. 5% Infill. Color Black is recommended.

I have done 2 different grids. One with round holes and one with square holes. Choose your favorite ;)

So i had to print four quarters. If you have already a Prusa XL or something similar, you can print it at once. So choose the big one. Otherwise you have to glue the quarters together. Do this on a flat surface. I used Ruderer L530 Glue.
