3D model description

Hi everybody, this model is a remix of the following one: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:117733

What I have changed:
1) Reduced the count of parts to 2 by joining the upper half and the cannon's plate
2) Made big cavities inside both top and bottom parts to place electronics, LEDs and batteries inside them
3) Made a kind of a screw-thread which is connecting the hemispheres so the sphere could be opened and closed like a box pretty reliably.

You can also download the source in .step format which is supported by many 3D editors.

My version was made as an autonomous Christmas tree decoration with a simple electronic circuit based on ATMega8A controller which changes the brightness of the LEDs. It is powered by 2 AA batteries with a step-up voltage converter which provides 5V. In my case the LEDs configuration is not canonical, I just wanted to add more colors :) The LEDs are simply glued to the inner surface of the hemispheres.

As for the material, I used transparent SBS Glass plastic (maybe it has some other names, its chemical name is styrene-butadiene copolymer), it becomes semi-transparent after being printed and dissipates the inner light. The parts were also covered by D-Limonene solvent and then dried by a fan heater to have a glossy look.

You can also find the video where it glows here: https://youtu.be/vEqVM-58rBE

P. S. Sorry for the huge stl files, but I was unable to reduce them during the export from my editor (Autodesk 123D Design).
