3D model description

It's hard to find decent BFS soft plastics outside of Asia, so I decided to start making my own.

The Ned Grub
Total length: 43 mm
Mould type: Injection
Printer compatibility: FDM and Resin
Hardware required: 4x M5 Metric or 5/32 screws for indexing

This collection of moulds aims to offer the Bait Finesse System and Ultra Light anglers more options when it comes to soft plastics. I will be focusing on sub-45mm soft plastic moulds first. Once I have enough of those to satisfy my needs I will be making a few jig head moulds aimed specifically at presenting these soft plastics better, as interesting jig heads 1/16 Oz and under are scarce.

If you like BFS or UL fishing and make your own stuff, please check in again soon. Loads more to come!

These moulds are designed to be easy to print and just as easy to assemble and shoot.

Assembly:

Moulds use standard screw sizes for indexing to improve alignment and were made universal to work anywhere in the world. Depending on where you are in the world you will use either an M5 x 20mm screw or a 5/32 screw 3/4" in length for indexing. The two halves of the mould are labelled as either "Name 4.8" or "Name 5.25". They are sized so that the suggested screw size is screwed into the "4.8" version providing just enough body so the screw cuts its own threads without too much friction or tension. With the screws skewered in Flush with the body, they now provide indexing with the opposite "5.25." part and slide in smoothly but precisely.

3D printing settings

These will print well on either an FDM or a resin printer, though I suggest using a resin printer for smoother surface details.

If printing with resin:
Paint the mould with a clear lacquer after finishing. This just provides a smoother final bait. Always use Worm oil as a release agent when shooting.

If printing with FDM:
It is strongly suggested to print with at least 5 walls and 1.6mm top and bottom thickness to provide enough body to the mould for heat dissipation. If printing with PLA no release agent is necessary. If painting the mould afterwards, or printing in PETG or ABS it is critical that you use worm oil as a release agent, otherwise, your plastisol will stick ruining your mould.
