Theirs was a love story of electrifying proportions; their very existence a desecration of humanity. Crudely stitched together, profanely reanimated by the mad scientist from which they were named, Frankenstein sought only to love his new Bride. She, however, was horrified by the grotesque creature. United by cruel circumstance - torn asunder by repulsion - will this monster ever find happiness?
How do you capture such a catastrophic tale of unrequited love in a still-life work of art? Well, we weren't too sure, but we gave it our best go, and this is what we came up with. Frank N' Bride - A Shocking Love Story!
If you're as enthralled by classic horror movies half as much as we are, you'll want to add this one to your collection of fanart.
We've made the piece as easy as possible to print without requiring paint or a multi-extruder printer. Instead, it's split into a few different STL files for easy multi-color layering.
Frankenstein & Bride STL Files
There are a total of six (6) STL files in the pack. Three of them are designed with holes so you can tie a string (we like clear fish wire) through it for easy hanging. The other three are without holes, in case you prefer putty, tak, sticky dots, or have another way of attaching to a wall or surface.
You'll need to print either...
- Bride Heart (with Holes)
- Frank Heart (with Holes)
- Frank-n-Bride Background (with Holes)
or...
- Bride Heart (No Holes)
- Frank Heart (No Holes)
- Frank-n-Bride Background (No Holes)
Note: All useful STLs are contained in a zip file. The STL titled "Frank-n-Bride (Whole)" is for previewing purposes on Cults3D, and is not meant for printing.
Multi-Color Layering the Hearts
The Bride Heart should consist of 3 colors. We started with Grey for the backdrop, Black for the edges and face, and White for the shocks in her hair.
Using the recommended printer / slicer settings below, colors layers should be set to change (i.e. Pause at Height in Cura) at:
- Start with Grey at Layer 1
- Switch to Black at Layer 11
- Finish with White at Layer 15
For Frank's Heart, the exact same concept and timing are required. We used Red, Black, then White. for this appearance, you'll change colors at:
- Start with Red at Layer 1
- Switch to Black at Layer 11
- Finish with White at Layer 15
The Frank-n-Bride Background STL file is provided as a convenience because - as we quickly figured out when printing it for the first time - it's much easier to glue the two halves of the heart onto a single full-heart background than it is to glue them together at the middle of the lightning bolt!
The background piece is only 0.5mm; just thick enough to be sturdy. This piece should be printed in black.
Tip: If you want an extra border around the heart (see images above), add a Brim when printing the background and set the Brim Distance to 0.0. If it still detaches from the print (as Brims are generally meant to do), set the Brim Distance to -.02.
Assembly Instructions
Refer to the Assembly Image above.
- Decide whether you want to print the Frankenstein wall art with or without holes (choose with holes for easy hanging), then print out all three of the STL files - Background, Bride Heart and Frank Heart.
- Apply glue to the left half of the Background Heart, then attach the Bride Heart to it. If you've printed with holes, make sure the holes line up.
- Repeat the same process on the right side to glue the Frank Heart in place (line up the holes if applicable).
- If you're printing the with Holes version, tie a string or wire (we use clear fishing line) through the holes to hang it from.
TIP: If you're having trouble lining up the holes, go ahead and tie a string through them first, then apply the glue. When you add the Bride and Frank to the Background, pull the string tight to bring the pieces into position at the top. Next, pinch the two bottom points of the lightning bolt together. This should align all pieces perfectly. Add a few clips or clothes pins to hold all pieces in place while the glue dries.
DIMENSIONS
At 100% scale and fully assembled (without a brim), the Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein Heart Decor measures:
X = 17.6cm / 6.9in
Y = 16.5cm / 6.5in
Z = 0.33cm / .13in
