3D model description

Mounts for a blower fan attached to a heat gun with flexible ducting for heat setting curable 3D printable materials.

This is a remix of JohnSL's Blower Fan for MendelMax 2.0 (Thing# 267212) which works really well at cooling PLA. I modified some of the supports so that it could be mounted on the bottom of the printer's X carriage to fit with my syringe extruder, and also made 2 different versions for long and short hotends and syringes. The short extruder mount is sized for a standard J-Head, and the long extruder mount is sized for an E3D.

The mount is for a 51mm Blower Fan. I used this particular fan:

http://nz.rs-online.com/web/p/blowers/7878960/ , as this is rated for high temperature operation. The hose attachment is for 52mm flexible hosing for which I used high temperature silicon flexible ducting which can be fixed to the attachment with a hose clamp

The heat gun mount is laser / water jet cut from aluminium, but this could be substituted for acrylic or similar as it does not touch the hot part of the heat gun. It is sized specifically for a Bosch GHG 660 heat gun as it has temperature controls :

Remember to check the glass transition temperature of the material you used to print the mounts before turning the heat up!

3D printing settings

Fix the blower fan to the blower fan mount and the hose attachment (if using) by threading long M3 screws through the hose attachment, blower fan, and blower fan mount in that order. Fasten with M3 nuts in the nut traps on the blower fan mount.

Loosely fit a hose clamp around your flexible ducting, then slide it on to the hose attachment and tighten the clamp. Attach the fan mount to the X carriage of the printer with M3 bolts and nuts.

Twist the front of the Bosch heat gun to remove the front guard. Attach the heat gun mount to the frame of the printer using M5 x 10 screws and M5 T nuts. Slot the heat gun in the hole of the heat gun mount so it sits flush, and fix with a zip tie looped through the small holes in the heat gun mount and around the handle of the heat gun. Loosely fit a host clamp around the open end of the flexible ducting, slide the ducting on to the end of the heat gun and tighten the clamp.

Plug the fan into your printer's board and adjust fan settings to your preference.
