3D model description

My 9-year-old daughter is wanting to help support Ukraine, and decided to make cookies to sell, donating the proceeds to the relief effort in Ukraine. I designed this cookie cutter for her cookies - she plans to make simple sugar cookies, which are reasonably dimensionally stable through baking, and she will ice with yellow and blue buttercream. You can see a test run made with a slice of bread.

The cookie cutter is horizontally 'flipped' so that the cookies come out in the right orienation.

There are two versions of the cutter:
* ukraine.stl - printed 'as is', this should produce a cookie 80mm wide and 56mm tall
* ukraine_large.stl - printed as is, this should produce a cookie 160mm wide and 112mm tall. The blade is the same thickness, but the base is beefed up a bit for strength.

Recipe

This basic sugar cookie recipe works well:

  • 4 cups flour (might need to add a little extra if dough is too wet)
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 1 cup of softened butter (~225g)
  • 3 eggs
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder

Cream sugar and butter together, just until mixture is fluffly and light. Add the eggs one at a time, and beat the mixture again after adding each egg. Add the vanilla and mix well. Mix the flour, salt and baking powder in another bowl, and then gradually add to the dough mixture. Mix well.

Knead the dough into smooth balls, and roll out on a floured counter or board. Flour cookie-cutter blade and cut out cookies. Bake at 180Β°C (350Β°F) for about 10 minutes.
This made 15 of the large-size cookies and 34 of the small ones. The dad... may have misappropriated a small amount of the dough along the way.

Baking Notes

We rolled our dough out to about 6mm (~1/4 inch). The large cookie cutter worked effortlessly. The small cookie cutter also worked well, but Crimea sometimes got stuck and had to be carefully winkled out of the cutter. Both large and small cookies look pretty good after baking.

Donate

Please feel free to use this design to raise funds for relief efforts in Ukraine. The cutter is quick and cheap to print, so maybe print copies for like-minded friends! If you are not sure of where to donate, the work being co-ordinated by the European Baptist Federation is amazing, and there is a desperate need for funding:
