The Helical Chess Set

Chess set including all 6 traditional chess pieces in a traditional style with a modern twist. Each piece is easily identifiable and all the correct height relative to each other, but could be scaled to suit any board size. Bases are modeled solid to improve stability. Pieces are very light but surprisingly durable given their helical skeleton frames.

As a chess player for many years I wanted to design a chess set meant to be played with as much as displayed. I wanted something visually interesting but without the risk of piece confusion midgame.

The king, queen, bishop, and pawn all print direct from the build plate support free. The rook requires a single centered support post, or something more complex. The knight can be printed on the build plate with supports or off a raft upside down. Supported versions of the rook and knight are included as well as the base stl files. The option to buy individual pieces will be coming, but they will be $3 a piece (the pawn is free)

All prints seen in the images are printed with an Anycubic Photon Mono 2 using Anycubic supplied resin with an exposure between 2.5 and 3.5. Recommend printing everything but the knight direct from the build plate. I prefer to print the rook with a centered support post and use a small allen key to remove it before curing. The knight i prefer to print upside down on a raft but it is also possible to print direct on the build plate with additional supports.
