3D model description

The Playstation 3 Move Navigation Controller is a wand-style bluetooth game controller that is essentially half of a standard PS3 SIXAXIS.

As it is bluetooth, it can be used for purposes beyond gaming (such as remote control of arduino robots). I have several controllers for such projects, and wanted a better method of storing them than a random box when not in use. I designed this thing to slip over the edge of the hutch on my desk (~ 16.5 mm thick wood). Each holder has space for four of the controllers.

The parts needed to assemble one holder:

  • One Controller Mount print
  • Two Desk Mount prints
  • Two machine screws, M3 x 10mm or longer (within reason)
  • Two M3 brass heat set inserts (4mm outer diameter x 3mm depth). I already had these inserts on hand so I designed this around them for strength. They are heated with a soldering iron and melt their way down into the part as they are inserted.

Both brass inserts are installed in the controller mount, not in the desk mount. The inserts provide threads for the M3x10 machine screw that attaches each Desk Mount.

If you don't have inserts, you could potentially get away with using a longer screw with a washer and a nut on the bottom, or remix the part to make use of a captive nut, but this has not been tested and is left as an exercise for the user.

Once the parts are assembled, the desk mount arms simply slide onto the edge of the desk.

If you are curious, the inner diameter of the ring is 36.5 at the midplane, with a 0.2mm outward taper toward the top.
