In 2017, my curiosity led me to discover a 3D printer, and from that moment, I was entranced. Transforming my designs into tangible objects became not just a pastime, but a fervent passion, and eventually, a calling. As time went on, my fascination with technology deepened, and I yearned for a project that would truly challenge my skills.
Come September 2023, an unexpected surplus of free time provided the perfect opportunity to embark on a long-held aspiration. With a mind teeming with ideas and hands eager to craft, I set out to create a camera that would not only be a functional marvel but also a testament to my dedication to the art.
Hence, O.Zone came into beingโa camera that encapsulates my personal journey in both photography and 3D printing. Its name is a fusion of my last name "Oh" and "Zone," as Zone focusing Camera.
The concept of a camera is elegantly simple, with its optical system, body, and film. Grasping this foundational structure paved the way for the intricate design of O.Zone. It was undeniably a challenge, but one I embraced with enthusiasm.
As I delved into the project, I aimed to streamline the design, focusing on eliminating unwieldy components while enhancing modern functionality. The lens, the heart of any camera, was selected for its precision and user-friendly focus helicoid. This choice ensured that capturing the perfect shot was effortless.
The body, often the unsung hero of a camera, was meticulously fashioned to seamlessly connect the lens to the film back. Every detail, from the exposure meter slots to the ergonomic grip, was conceived with user convenience in mind. Drawing inspiration from military aerial cameras, I aspired to create a design that was both tactical and aesthetically pleasing.
The film back, a pivotal component in capturing light and translating it into imagery, was chosen for its reliability and accessibility. The HORSEMAN 6x9 film back proved to be the perfect fit, smoothly advancing film with each press of the shutter.
