Blended Wing Body Aircraft

Blended Wing Body Aircraft 3D print model

Description

A blended wing model with 2 engines. Available in 3 formats: .stl, .step, .obj Can be used for computational fluid analysis. Designed using openvsp and fusion 360.

A blended wing body (BWB) is a fixed-wing aircraft that has no clear dividing line between the wings and the main body of the craft. It is a hybrid shape that resembles a flying wing but also incorporates features from conventional transport aircraft. The BWB offers several advantages over conventional tube-and-wing airframes, such as low radar cross-section and drag-reducing efficiencies of a flying wing-shape aircraft with the hauling capacity of a traditional cargo plane or airliner. Boeing, Airbus, and California-based JetZero are tinkering with the idea, with an ambitious goal of putting into service a blended wing aircraft as soon as 2030. The BWB configuration blends the wings and fuselage into one continuous structure that reduces drag by minimizing the wetted area, which is the surface area of the craft that interacts with the outside airflow. NASA has tested it through one of its experimental planes, the X-48.
