3D model description

I got a lot of inspiration from existing inserts and you can definitely see similarities somewhere - but if you look closely there are small but subtle differences.

There were 2 priorities with the insert:

  1. if possible everything should fit into the base box without letting the lid protrude and there should be an all in (Frostpunk base game, Foray into Frostland expansion, Resources expansion, Miniatures expansion, Dreadnought expansion.

2: The choice of boxes and holders for the game components should speed up the build and at best be part of the game.

Re 1: It is impossible to get everything into the basic box without considering point 2 and in general, without the lid sticking out, I think it is impossible. My design can hold everything except the dreadnought miniature - no chance!

To 2: I think this is well done and before I explain the individual things, already in advance that I have made just because of point 2 certain things as I do not actually do. More about this in the description that follows now.

First of all: All cards are premium sleeved with Gamegenic sleeves (matte). Air is still a little available, if you should have even thicker.

In the back right of the box there is a box for the big tower. It's just there to keep the other material from sliding around, otherwise it would be unnecessary.

Left: All large tarot cards are distributed in individual boxes. Cards that belong together are in one box (e.g. Law cards and Consequence cards). All boxes are labeled from the bottom, so you know which cards to put where.
The standard cards (poker size) have their own compartment, also subdivided for the respective card type. In addition, there is a compartment for the two corner and the wooden stones for hope and discontent. This box also has a label under the box. Then below this box is another tray for the resources wood, coal (and cubes for the tower), steel and steam cores. These should be stored underneath so that they are covered and nothing flies around in the game box.

Bottom left next to the small cards: Here are 2 trays. At the bottom a tray for the trees and Automa. On top is a box for the hexes divided into 3 compartments: Outside, Inside and other hexes you need for scenarios. In the middle of this box is a small removable box. This is labeled with build up material. Contrary to my other efforts to always sort tokens nicely, I just "threw" into this box all the material needed for the game setup. They are always in the game anyway, so a nice tray with great sorting makes almost no sense. In addition, it saved me space (which is very scarce with all the material). So just dump it out, set up the game, done. The leader miniature is also stored in this box on top. I had to make a compromise, because it disturbs a bit when dumping the tokens (especially the large token), but it all fits and I saved me so again space in the trays for the building miniatures - which was necessary.

Then comes the lower right part:

1st lowest level from the right: Next to the tray for trees and automatics come 2 individual trays for citizen figures and other tokens in the game. They can be used individually, so that you can distribute them nicely on the table. I am not a friend of big trays that hold everything. There is limited space on the table and everything is in one place. With individual trays, you can distribute everything nicely around the game board, so that everyone has something to do. Next to it is the first tray for the building miniatures. The trays are all labeled (tokens, resources and buildings) in each compartment, so you know where what goes again - especially with the building miniatures is extremely important.

2nd level from the bottom right: Another box for the buildings miniatures.

3rd level from the bottom right: Building tiles Tableaut. Now this is something special, because this can be easily taken out and put on the table. The board of cardboard is no longer needed. I had to make a compromise: There are a maximum of 4 building tiles stored everywhere, except for the hunting lodges (there are 5 tiles). If I had used space for 5, I would have come too high and I would have had to leave the top sticking out about 2.5mm - that would go against point 1 of the priority. I put the 5th tile in the free space - you can just put that on top of the 4 where they belong when playing. To sort, just put one back in the free slot. All tiles are on one level. On all other boards I have seen this was not done - it is just a lot of fiddling to set each size and height individually. Only with the free slot I have kept the maximum space - who knows if that is ever needed.

4th level from the bottom right: There comes the 2nd part of the building tableau on it and a tray for all other building tiles. The two parts that together replace the cardboard tape of Frostpunk are also prepared so that you can insert magnets - so they then form a nice, large tableau.

5th level from bottom right: the 3rd and last miniatures tray goes here, also to protect the two tile trays underneath.

Special features:

  1. I found it impossible when you have the resource expansion that all boards are nicely populated with great deluxe tokens, except for the corpse indicator and the scenario tokens. So I 3D printed those and now even those are a little more deluxe.
  2. the tower: I have never played the game but I was so annoyed when I designed it that the drawer under the tower always fell off - why didn't they build a floor in the tower? Anyway - I did (gray part on the last pictures). This just plugs under the tower and fits perfectly and tightly and doesn't slip off by itself either. Now the drawer can't fall down anymore - yay!
  3. some trays are multicolored and also the tokens are printed multicolored. I tested all this and it went wonderfully and is better so you can read everything well when playing.

Pictures: I purposely included a lot of pictures, especially for each part what I took out when you open the lid. The correct sequence is crucial so that the lid closes completely flush and this fits to the millimeter.

This version includes the german texts for the lettering (except the building miniature lettering). I am working on an English version.

I have had the text translated from German into English. Forgive any mistakes and if you have any questions just write to me.

Every file must be printed once! It's about 1.3kg of material needed.
