3D model description

This spooky Nightmare Before Christmas Fidget Spinner is a fun toy for all ages! It features three Jack Skellington heads that spin freely around a 608 (22mm) ball bearing.

We've separated the fidget spinner into 2 STL files that print in three pieces to make it very easy to get the white-on-black colors. You won't need a multicolor printer, and you won't have to pause and change filament colors. Simply print the Top+Bottom pieces in white, and the Middle piece in black.

If you have a Bambu Labs printer with AMS*, we've included a pre-painted 3MF File. We also provide the **snap-in buttons, which we recommend printing in black.

NBC Jack Fidget Spinner STL & 3MF Files
The list of STL files and recommended colors to print in are:

  • NBC Jack Fidget Spinner - Top+Btm (White).stl
  • NBC Jack Fidget Spinner - Middle (Black).stl
  • Button Set - 8.1mm (Black).stl
  • Button Set - 8.2mm (Black).stl
  • Button Set - 8.3mm (Black).stl
  • NBC Jack Fidget Spinner - Bambu AMS (see Printing 3MF below)

Why Three Button Sets
We've made a lot of 3d printed fidget spinners and used a lot of different bearings along the way. The inner dimensions of each bearing can be slightly different. The description always says 8.0mm, but that never works. Some 3d printers can produce slightly varying dimensions as well, based on layer height and calibration.

Long story short, we've had to use all three sizes, 8.1mm, 8.2mm, and sometimes even 8.3mm, to get a snug fit. If it doesn't snap in tight, it tends to fall out over time. My advice - Stat with 8.2mm and size up or down if needed.

Bearings Not Included
You will need to supply your own bearing. We've attempted to 3D print bearings before but they never come out smooth enough to power a fidget toy like this (not very well anyway). You can get bearings at most online shops, including Amazon, or anywhere that sells skateboard accessories.

Look for: 608 Open Bearing Balls, 8x22x7mm

3D Printing and Assembly Instructions
This is a very print and simple build.

  1. Print 1x NBC Jack Fidget Spinner - Top+Btm, in White.
  2. Print 1x NBC Jack Fidget Spinner - Middle, in Black.
  3. Print 1x Button Set - 8.2mm, in Black. If it doesn't snap tightly in, print the smaller 8.1mm or larger 8.3mm instead.
  4. Add tiny dots of glue to the underside of the Top and Bottom (white) pieces. Make sure to get a little glue on each cheek, chin, and all pegs. Turn it over and press it into the Middle section. The pegs should snap right into the recessed holes.

Tip: If the pegs don't fit (i.e. layer height was too high, or printer overextruded filament), take a small flat-head screwdriver, insert it into each hole, and spin it a few times to increase the hole size. Or, use a heated nail that is slightly larger than the hole size.

Printing 3MF with Bmabu AMS
The 3MF file is for Bambu Labs printers (and other machines that support 3MF/automatic multicolor filament printing). It is pre-painted to print in White-Black-White on a Bambu Labs printer with AMS (multi-color filament printing). You'll want to fill AMS Slot 1 with Black, and AMS Slot 2 with White.

If painting the file yourself in Bambu Studio, start with black in AMS 1. Set White in AMS2. Using the Paint Tool, choose to Paint by Layer, then fill the first few top and bottom layers with white. If his eyes turn white, you've gone too far. The eyes, nose, and mouth are carved out, and should remain black.

3D printing settings

These are easy to print. The resolution should be higher for the Top+Btm and buttons. Basic settings will do on the Middle section.

The most important thing is to add enough infill on the Middle so that the spinner has some weight to it. If it's too light, it won't spin as well. We found that 75% produces just enough weight, but you're welcome to increase it to 100% if you prefer. The top+Btm and Buttons should also be printed in 100% infill because they are thin.
