3D model description

Hi all,

here's my last design published on Thingiverse, a keychain you might not want to print and hang somewhere.

--

Background:

Some of you might have noticed many of my designs are gone on Thingiverse. And yes, that's true. Because I've deleted them. 5+ years of work, comments, makes and attachments gone.

There's various reasons why I considered removing old designs and such. But the reason I deleted them is simply a message I got from Thingiverse. It was nicely titled "False Information".

I was informed that some of my designs violate the terms of service. And to resolve these issues I was told to take care of various things, like:

"as long as our visitors can download the Things you showcase in your pictures."

Which simply isn't possible for many of my designs without an immense amount of work from my side. To create what's in the pictures almost all my designs require a piece of software. And all the information/tipps/schematics from my ClockSketch v7-Instructable. I'd have to copy all that to thingiverse and keep track of files for over a dozen of projects on multiple sites. And that's simply not gonna happen.

Also many pictures from the titles had been quite time consuming renders. And while I always tried to catch the look of the real thing it simply isn't possible to print some things exactly like can be seen in some (detail) pictures.

And because they've been asking so nicely:

"Failure to address this issue within 48 hours may result in account deletion, as per our Terms of Service,"

I've decided to take the easy route and remove all designs which did violate the terms. They messed up this site for years, still I kept posting here and answering comments/messages etc.

But I certainly won't bow down to Thingiverse, no way.

Some of you might think I'm overreacting. The reason I don't think so is because I know better than anyone else how much time I spent on all this and if they're now asking me to "follow the rules" I will do so, by the letter.

Just curious, but doesn't this technically make all things violate the terms of service where you have to go to an external site to get some piece of code/library/video?! Hmmm....

Cheers to all the nice people out there and a BIG SORRY to all the ones who posted makes/remixes which are now without any reference. I hated to do this and I'm quite angry right now - but investing more time into a site that didn't bother fixing problems for multiple years? Would you do it?

Daniel
