3D model description

Presenting Deinotherium, the massive land beast of the Cenozoic Era!

A distant cousin to elephants, mammoths, and mastodons, Deinotherium (“Terrible Beast”) first appeared during the Middle Miocene (approx. 10mya) and became extinct during the Middle Pleistocene (approx. 1mya). While it was very similar to modern elephants in its build, Deinotherium was larger than modern-day African elephants with some specimens towering at over 13ft (4m) tall. However, the most noticeable difference between Deinotherium and its modern kin is its skull.

Unlike modern and ancient elephants, Deinotherium possessed two downward-extending tusks in its lower jaw that curved slightly back like a beard or garden hoe. It also possessed a nasal opening that was pushed forward giving its skull a longer profile with a flat head. While its trunk would have been shorter proportionately than modern elephants, scientists theorize that it would still be long enough to reach down and drink water from rivers and lakes.

3D printing settings

The designated FDM file has successfully been printed in FDM, while the other file is designed for printing in SLS and is untested. The latter is a single, hollow piece with thin walls and no supports while the former is a completely sealed peace that can be made using a standard FDM printer. Be advised that some modifications may be needed to print using other methods and materials.
