3D model description

This is an attempt to convert a cheap 10" Chinese tablet into a 2-in-1.

The tablet, like many others, was supplied with a clip-on case with a folding cover which is supposed to double as a stand. Since it folds, it is pretty useless as a platform to hold a keyboard: it isn't much better as a stand and won't do what I wanted - hold the tablet on my knee when I'm in an armchair.

The kickback stand was designed on Openscad, so you can easily alter it to suit your needs and tastes. The stand needs to be glued to the back of the case but, as it is only around 6mm tall, that's not too much of a disadvantage. For this, you can use sticky pads or double-sided carpet tape, which are fairly easy to scrape off. The stand holds my tablet exactly as I wanted.

Other published stands I could find need to grip the tablet at the lower edge of the screen. This isn't possible with the case open to support a keyboard.

I chose the TechGear Active Strike USB Bluetooth Keyboard as it was quite cheap (Β£12), the right size and had what I needed. This comes with a foam base stuck on with 5 tabs of glue: I pulled that off. I attached he keyboard to the soft side of the tablet front cover with Velcro self-adhesive tape. Put the tape on with the soft (loop) bit facing the screen and the hard (hook) side on the back of the keyboard, and don't join them up until the tape has had a few hours for the adhesive to set. When the keyboard is attached, it holds the front cover rigid and is also easy to remove.

The combination works quite well as a 2-in-1 and I'm no longer tempted to buy one.

I'm still learning Openscad. If anyone can tell me what causes the warning message, I'd be grateful.
