3D model description

Introducing my second artful shadow box using Hueforge, the filament painting software.

It's a reproduction of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". The original artwork is a woodblock print by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai, created in late 1831 during the Edo period of Japanese history. The print depicts three boats moving through a storm-tossed sea, with a large, cresting wave forming a spiral in the center and Mount Fuji visible in the background.

I'm always impressed when printing Hueforge models. It transforms your 3D printer into a painter and the models are printable on most 3D printers. No need for an AMS or MMU. All color changes are done using color swaps or pauze GCODE commands

I've used the following colors:

Plate 1

  • Start with Fillamentum Pearl Night Blue At layer #6 (0.64mm) swap to Geeetech Water Blue
  • At layer #13 (1.2mm) swap to Fillamentum Mukha
  • At layer #18 (1.6mm) swap to Sunlu PLA+ White for the rest.

Plate 2

  • Start with Fillamentum Pearl Night Blue
  • At layer #7 (0.72mm) swap to Geeetech Water Blue
  • At layer #10 (0.96mm) swap to Fillamentum Mukha
  • At layer #15 (1.36mm) swap to Prusament PLA Gravity Grey
  • At layer #18 (1.6mm) swap to Sunlu PLA+ White for the rest.

Plate 3

  • Start with Prusament PLA Gravity Grey
  • At layer #14 (1.28mm) swap to PolyTerra Peanut
  • At layer #17 (1.52mm) swap to Fillamentum Mukha
  • At layer #20 (1.76mm) swap to Sunlu PLA+ White for the rest.

It consists of 3 numbered plates.

Try to match the colors as good as possible if you don't have the filaments I've used.

Since these are rather complex STL files, slicing can take a while. Some of the STL files may report an error, please do not fix them! You will lose details if you do. The errors are a result of the complex STL file Hueforge produces.

3D printing settings

  • Layer height of 0.08mm with a base layer of 0.24mm
  • No supports
  • 100% infill
  • Arachne wall generator recommended
  • The STL's contain a very thin layer where the empty space should be. This is an artefact that Hueforge leaves in the STL. The slicer will ignore it when slicing.
