Some Kaiju encountered by the defenders of Renner's World are able to shrug off lasers and plasma bolts, whether through special electromagnetic shielding or discarding layers of ablative flesh.

These hard cases tend to find armor-piercing shells loaded with high explosives harder to ignore.

There's something to be said about the old school equation of massive kinetic energy compounded with delayed fuses to cause maximum damage, with the warheads detonating to devastating effect once they've passed through the outer layers of the beast's armor.

Likewise, massed packs of juvenile kaiju can be suppressed and neutralized easier with weapons with higher rates of fire.

Rotary cannons are able to put out a cascade of smaller-caliber ordnance, which sometimes beats the lone projectiles thrown out by the larger cannons with single barrels.

The feed mechanisms are easily modified to switch between both types of munitions and barrel systems, helping to ease the demands of logistics and production.

As long as the shells keep coming off the line, these new cannons will help deliver them into the ragged carcasses of the enemy invaders.
