3D model description

Ornithopters are cool and all, but the machine god yearns for airships.

Included are models to represent all of the raptor's options:
- Cognis Heavy Stubbers
- Heavy Phosphor Blasters
- Twin Cognis Lascannon
- Chaff Launchers
- Command Uplink

The completed model fits roughly the same footprint as the official flyer, slightly longer and taller, but without the wingspan. Around 270mm x 100mm x 120mm at its extents.

All this resin adds up to some weight. The gondola has a 5mm x 12mm slot in the underside to provide an attachment point for your flight stand of choice. A very rudimentary stand base is provided. Alternatively, the hole can be easily filled or ignored.

Join me next time for the bomber version if it turns out I like the rules. Or something entirely different. We'll see!

3D printing settings

The airship's envelope is less detailed than the rest of the model, and can be printed on an FDM printer without compromising on quality too much. A blank base, appropriate for FDM printing is also provided.

If you don't have an FDM printer, or prefer everything to be resin, a version of the envelope split into five segments is included. Since the envelope is quite large, it will be difficult to print in one piece on smaller resin printers. Even in its separate segments, each piece takes up much of the print volume.

I printed the other parts acceptably on a Photon Mono SE with SirayaTech Navy Grey Fast ABS-Like. Larger pieces like the gondola and engines have drainage holes which are entirely hidden when the whole thing is assembled. The gondola is the largest piece of the model, and may take a bit of careful positioning to fit in the print area.

All that said, you probably know your resin and your printer better than I do.
