The comic was published from November 18, 1985 to December 31, 1995, and at its peak was published in more than 2,400 newspapers around the world. To date, the comic's 18 published books have sold more than 30 million copies. Calvin and Hobbes themselves appear in most issues of the comic, only occasionally the focus shifts to Calvin's parents.
