3D model description

As told on Nema17 Reduction thing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4617258

I've recently found a Meade ETX-70 with it's goto mount unusable. So wandering around I found the OnStep project to build my own goto mount.

First of all, I had some spare 3d printer components so I decided to take good use of them. OnStep allowed me to use a Ramps board and a few A4988 stepper drivers. I designed the above mentioned Nema17 reduction gear to solve the low A4988 driver resolution.

With a couple of printed reduction gears, one for each axis, and a few more printed parts included here you will be able to mount your own Meade ETX-70 (or with some modifications your own telescope mount). My telescope has 85mm diameter so modifying the gripper parts you shoud be able to adapt it for similar diameter telescopes.

in addition to the pieces necessary to build the reduction gears I've also used:

  • Some M5 & M6 hardware to attach all pieces together
  • 2x F686ZZ bearings
  • Raspberry Pi 3 and Astroberry software to control it wirelessly
  • DC-DC step down from 12v to 5v
  • Arduino Mega & Ramps 1.4 board
  • 2x A4988 Stepper Drivers
  • USB gamepad to control it manually

See my first tests here:

Update: Just uploaded my OnStep config.h file.
