3D model description

Most Panther G kits (I think Dragon’s ‘Ersatz M10’ and Takom’s kits are the only exceptions so far) omit the thicker section at the front of the top plate which was installed on Panther G hulls from June 1944 onwards. The plate is only slightly thicker than the one behind it but it results in a visible step and if you care about such things, there have been two options for fixing it.
One is to cut out the entire panel, add material to the base and reinstall it with the new base flush with the underside of the existing hull top. This requires preserving both parts of the kit hull top and dealing with the tricky curve around the driver’s periscope. This is fiddly and time-consuming and runs the risk that one or both parts will be damaged in the process.
The other is to remove all the details from the top, add a thin plate of styrene to it and then reinstating the details, notably of the driver’s periscope mount. This requires removing the surround of the periscope mount cleanly enough in the first place that it survives intact but then replacing the removed material so that its height above the plate is maintained.
Although I had originally intended to make this a part for the whole plate, following Sam Dwyer's sound suggestion that the second method is much easier I opted to provide just the periscope surround, which avoids the need for any major surgery on the hull.
Designed in 1/35 based on dimensions from the Dragon part and Panzer Tracts 5-3 but can be rescaled to 1/48 (72.92%) or 1/16 (218.75%).
