3D model description

Here is the complete set of printable components for a DIY Oculus Rift.

Once constructed and the additional components added this will give you a fully working 3D Virtual Reality headset with full head tracking.

See http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=15247 for more information on the DIY Rifts.

3D printing settings

There are a few additional components that are needed to build this project. I will do a complete detailed list soon but I just wanted to get this uploaded for now so other people could have a play if they wanted.

You will need:

Sparkfun 9DOF Head Tracker (or similar)

Sparkfun FTDI USB Breakout board

5.6" LCD Screen and controller board (7 in 1 from vitrolight ebay) - I cut my board down to size, instructions in MTBS3D thread

2m HDMI Cable (to make LVDS Cable)

2x HDMI ports with solder pads

2x 50mm Asphric Lenses (See MTBS3D Thread)

Elastic for Head Strap

Total cost of components comes to around £300. This is a project for DIY enthusiasts, not a cheap alternative to the Oculus Rift.

I recommend waiting and buying the real consumer version when it comes out. Or buy the dev kit. This was done purely for the fun of building it yourself.

I have uploaded all STL files and google sketchup files so people can make their own modifications.

I printed mine on a RepRap so it should print on pretty much anything. No support needed.
