3D model description

I've recently dug out an old rules book for one of the most popular fantasy tabletop battle games out there (that is getting a reboot soon!) and started playing with my nephew and quickly found my old tree and woods scatter terrain to be almost unusable (I would use the little model trees that you buy at Hobby Lobby back in the day and the scale is terrible and they constantly fall over). Since I've started 3D printing miniatures for our games and have found some really good free models out there, I was hopeful I would find some good trees for tabletop war games. I did not.

So I decided to sculpt my own. I am just learning how to sculpt so these aren't the best trees out there, but functionally they work the way I want for my games. I put them in a line so that they work for obstructing movement, line of sight, and providing cover, without any of the complication of units moving in to or out of the wooded area.

The photos show the printed and painted trees next to miniatures that are on 20mm bases as well as 25mm for comparison.

The trees are very stable on their base, and I was able to print them out in resin in one piece with easy automatic supports. I believe I flipped the model over and added supports from the build plate to the tree tops. But, they may also print with the base on the build plate and little to no supports where the trees flare out from the trunk. I modeled them with that in mind but ultimately decided to flip the model entirely and use plenty of supports for the print just to be safe. I also did 1mm walls with 10% infill for hollowing in Lychee. My printer is a Phrozen Sonic Mighty and I used the Phrozen Water Washable Rapid Black Resin.

I apologize that these aren't the artistically best trees out there, but hopefully someone will find them useful.

If you are looking for a better version of a similar tabletop piece, please check out my newer design here:
