3D model description

After an upgrade one of my Prusa i3 MK2s with the Full Bear Upgrade V2.0 I run into trouble with my former beloved igus drylin bearings - which not a problem with the Full Bear Upgrade! I was forced to use the hates lm8uu stock bearings which brought back all the noise and vibrations to my printer. The trouble with the igus bearings is founded on the relative softness of the material. The smoothness of the linear movement does not cope well with deformation. As you may know, I have printed brackets for the igus bearing which work pretty well. However, these brackets are substitutions for the infamous zip-tie mounting method previously used by Prusa. With the introduction of the U-bolts and the upgrade to the MK2s, I switched to them for my entire fleet.

So I was searching for an alternative to both bearing variants and found sintered bronze bushings. The advantages related to the lm8uu and drylin bushings are:

  • No moving parts
  • No extra grease needed
  • Stiff and sturdy bronze metal
  • Quiet run on the smooth rods

The only downside: They do not come in the same size as the lm8uu or trying. While the center hole is made for 8mm shafts, the outer diameter is only 12mm compared to the 15mm of the other bearings. They are also a lot shorter than the other bearing, measuring at 15mm compared to the 24mm of the others.

Therefore, I designed and printed these adapters, which bump up the size to meet the stock sizing and making the sintered bronze bearing fit the stock Y-axis bed carriage design.

Furthermore, they are relatively inexpensive, and you can get by them from a variate of dealers. If you want to support me, please buy them via my affiliate links provided here:

  • eBay Germany: https://goo.gl/W2zMZE (Recommended German seller. Took just one day for the bearings to arrive - very lovely support and sound quality manufactured bearings)

Important: you can use shorter bearings than 15mm when using the U-bolts to fixate the adapters because the pressure will lock the bearings in place. However, make sure the outer diameter is 12mm

Please leave me a link from where you bought yours in the comment section, so I can make it public here for everyone.

Moreover, I made better use of the slots found on the bed carriage, where usually the stock bearings are placed into it. The adapters fit nicely into these slots, instantly locking them in place and position. Theoretically, you don't even need any fixation anymore. But: secure them anyway, like with a zip-tie or with the U-bolts for a sturdy operation!
