3D model description

Model of the Dutch navy submarine built at the start of the WWII.

The 21 Class contains seven submarines still incomplete at the start of the German invasion of the Netherlands. Four of them (O21,O22,O23 and O24) escaped to the United Kingdom.

Unfortunately tree of them (O25, O26 and O27) didn't make it so far and were ceptured by the German Navy.
All tree were ordered to complete by the Germans and entered service as UD-3, UD-4 and UD-5

The submarines were built at tree different shipyards:
The O21 and O22 at Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde in Vlissingen.
The O23, O24, O26 and O27 at RDM in Rotterdam and the O25 at Wilton Feijenoord in Rotterdam.

The O21 class was a very modern submarine and could compare with every submarine in the years of the WWII. The hull was completely welded, a novice in that period.

The Submarine was equipped with a new Dutch invention the "Snuiver" but the conservative UK navy did'nt see the potential and removed them from the four submarines when they were completed in England. The Germans saw the possibilities and used the "Schnorkel" in the U boats in the second part of the war.

The O21 was one of the only 14 submarines who sank a German U-boat (U-96 VII C) in the WWII.
