HISTORY OF MK5 ARMOR MK5 armor is more of a creation of bastardization and necessity rather than design. During the civil war supply signs on both sides were stretched at best, and entirely cut off at worst. As a result MK5 armor developed in two ways. First armor manufacturing worlds unable to get materials needed for making new suits of armor were forced to use inferior materials that they had access to and bind these inferior materials together with heavy bonding studs to make the armor stronger than it would otherwise have been by not binding layers of inferior materials together. Second as the weapons of the former crusading forces were turned on themselves, the forces of both sides in the civil war were forced to make their armor that had previously been impervious to foes stronger to withstand their own powerful weapons so bonding studs where employed so that rather than shattering on impact from their mass reactive rounds bonding studs were employed so that the point of impact would break away only a portion of the armor rather than destroying it outright.

The bastardized nature of MK5 armor came about from a lack of spare parts to repair the crusader's existing armor, so they were forced to make repairs and alterations by cannibalizing parts from the various marks of armor to make a single functioning suit. As a result virtually every suit of MK5 armor was distinct an often comprised of parts of older marks of armor.
