Star Christmas Tree Topper

I created this Star-Shaped Christmas Tree Topper as a compliment to my teardrop shaped ornament. The idea was the primary "ornament" can be printed and used as a stand alone ornament (attached to individual string lights), or you can print 5 of them along with a central star shaped hub and create a beautiful tree topper. It's surprisingly light weight. Each star weighs only 15g and is pre-hollowed. The total weight of the topper is 95g. The smaller ornament can be found here:

I've also included some optional connecting pieces to help attach it to the tree. You can print the traditional cone shape used for Douglas Fir, or if your tree has a more substantial central branch you can use a 6mm dowel with some twist ties. I went with a dowel.

For the assembly, I used a standard 20-count mini light string. I used the last 5 lights of the string and inserted one light into each ornament. Then I hot glued each ornament to one half of the central hub. I did not have to cut or modify the light string. Once all 5 pieces were glued to the first half of the hub I glued the second half down to complete assembly. The dowel is also attached with hot glue into an 8mm hole at the bottom. Photos show various stages of assembly. You can assemble with LED or incandescent bulbs!

The ornament component is approximately 70mm in diameter at its maximum and 100mm tall. I have a smaller version as well but this bigger one works better on trees over 6' tall. It looks great on my 10 ft tall Christmas tree! I printed mine with transparent ABS like resin and tinted it red with pigment.
