3D model description

This is a collection of 3d printable replacement parts for the Hosim g173 sand buggy (also branded as San He, S-Idee, or Absima). The four models, g171, g172, g173, g174 are identical up to some cosmetic parts, so it will suit those as well. I believe that the Absima 1/14 series of buggies 14001, 14002, 14003, 14004, and 14005 are also similar.

Not only the spare parts are expensive to buy, but 3d printing offers the possibility to vary colors and even attempt to improve the strength of some parts.

The following list is expected to grow as I break more things...

  • front/rear_chest_cover: 71-014 71-015 (reinforced around hinge). The new file chest_cover.scad replaces the older version front_chest_cover.scad adding the rear part (the front part is unchanged)
  • front_shock_bracket: front part in 71-016 (reinforced around hinge)
  • spring_cylinder: the long hollow cylinder of part 71-040 (with tight tolerances to keep the shaft straight)
  • bottom_spring_stop: the small washer in 71-040 that maintains the spring on its bottom end
  • remote_wheel: steering wheel for the remote controller, which flanges on each side
  • differential_cup, differential_gear (both parts must be printed): replacement for the cup part and associated gears in differentials (71-017), with a different assembly design (reusing the small center screw) to address the weakness of the original cup's shaft
  • front/rear_drive_shaft: 71-044 71-038. The new file drive_shaft.scad replaces the older version front_drive_shaft.scad adding the rear part (the front part is unchanged). The "universal_joint" parts correspond to the wheel side plastic part of the front universal joint. I printed it in nylon but it broke quickly and I lost the rest of the front drive shaft, so I switched to a tripod joint replacement (see below). There are three versions of the universal joint: one that is compatible with original hex fitting (71-037) and screw (71-055), and two "12_teeth" to be used with the modified hex fitting (hex_12_teeth) which should be stronger. The "m4" version has a larger hole to be used with a m4 screw, easier to find, and hopefully stronger than the original. The "tripod_joint_outside_12_teeth_m4" and "tripod_front_drive_shaft" files are a replacement for the whole front drive shaft using a 100% printed tripod joint instead of a universal joint. A steel nail of 2mm diameter and 12mm length is needed for the differential side of the front drive shaft, and for both sides of the rear drive shaft. Use the "tripod_tool" file and pliers (or a hammer) to force the shaft into the wheel side part. This was tested with PLA and it works well !
